Picking The Right Bike!

There are lots of reasons to choose a bicycle as your primary means of transportation. Just because you are riding a bicycle from one point to another doesn't mean it's your preferred way to travel. Some people have decided to take up cycling as a way to exercise. Some choose to cycle because they are in competitions with cycling. And some people decide that they want to take up cycling as a hobby with their family and friends. Whatever the reason you have for wanting a cycling bicycle, there are a lot of different things to consider when you are trying to decide which cycling bicycle is right for you. Fashion really does affect the choice you make when purchasing a new bike. Favorite colors and styles show in our choices. These are going to come into play when you are shopping for your bicycle. Unless you are just buying a bike for the sheer look of it, style and fashion options shouldn't be the ultimate priorities. Evaluating your choices according to safety and comfort will be the best first step. After ensuring both safety and comfort, see which ones you like the actual design of best.

For a road bike you should take away 9" from the inseam measurement you took earlier. This is to account for the size of tires you will use on a road bike. Designed for cycling around the city road bike tires are thin. You will want to subtract 12" for a mountain bike. Again this is to account for the type of tires you will be using. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. Mountain bikes can travel on city pavement but that is not what they are designed to do.

You also want to make sure you leave some room between you and the crossbar web link of your bike. When you choose your bike, adjust the seat up a few inches from the crossbar and then sit on the bike. Make sure you can place both feet on the ground if need be. Each type of bike requires different clearances. For example a touring bike will require around an inch. However for a mountain bike you will need 3" between the crossbar and yourself. You need to consider several things when choosing your bicycle for the first time. Are you going to be using your bike every day or will you only be riding every so often? Which height of bike is the most comfortable fit for you? Would you rather be able to put your feet flat on the ground or would you rather have that few inches between your feet and the ground when you are sitting down? These are some of the things you need to consider when choosing your bike.
